About Reversi

Reversi (also known as Othello) is a classic game of clever reversals. Place a disc so that you trap a line of your opponent's discs between two of yours, and they all flip to your color. Play against a thoughtful computer opponent and try to finish with the most discs. The board can swing wildly right up to the last move — it's easy to learn but wonderfully deep.

Reversi is one of our free board & strategy games for kids — play it right here in your browser, or browse all our free online games.

How to Play

  • You play black; the computer plays white.
  • Place a disc so it traps a straight line of white discs between two blacks.
  • All trapped discs flip to your color.
  • You must make a move that flips at least one disc. Most discs at the end wins!

Tips & Tricks

  • Corners can never be flipped, which makes them the most valuable squares on the board.
  • Steer clear of the squares right next to a corner early on — they hand the corner away.
  • Discs along an edge are much harder for your opponent to flip, so edges are worth fighting for.
  • Having fewer discs in the middle of the game often sets up a big swing at the very end.
