About Sudoku

Sudoku is the number puzzle the whole world got hooked on — and the secret is that it's pure logic, with no arithmetic at all. You fill a 9×9 grid so every row, every column, and every 3×3 box holds the numbers 1 to 9 exactly once. A few numbers are there to start you off; the rest you reason out, one careful step at a time. Choose easy, medium, or hard, and whenever two numbers clash the grid quietly marks them in red, so kids can catch their own slips instead of guessing. It's the kind of puzzle that looks impossible for about a minute, then suddenly starts to click.

Sudoku is one of our free numbers & maths games for kids — play it right here in your browser, or browse all our free online games.

How to Play

  • Tap an empty cell to select it.
  • Tap a number (or press 1–9) to place it in that cell.
  • Each row, column, and 3×3 box must contain 1 to 9 with no repeats.
  • Fill the whole grid correctly to solve the puzzle. Repeated numbers turn red.

Tips & Tricks

  • Start where the grid is busiest — a row, column, or box that's nearly full leaves fewer places for the missing numbers to hide.
  • Hunt for a cell that can only be one number and fill it in; it often unlocks the next one, and the one after that.
  • Pick a single digit, say 7, and scan the whole grid for the one spot it has to go.
  • Treat the red clashes as free hints — back up and rethink that number rather than pushing on.
  • There's no timer, so slow down. A calm scan beats a lucky guess every single time.
