Why it matters. Most nouns add s to make more than one, but plenty of common words do something different. This sheet mixes both kinds, so it is a good check of which rule applies.
Where children slip. Words ending in s, x, ch or sh need es (box to boxes, bus to buses). Children often write boxs. Say the word out loud: you can hear the extra syllable.
